Barry Winters

Barry Winters is Co-Founder and Director of Vanor Advisory, a construction and development consultancy supporting clients, investors and project teams across complex real estate projects. He has more than 15 years’ experience in the UK construction industry, working across contractor-side delivery, pre-construction, client-side project management, programme management, technical due diligence and project recovery.
Barry has particular experience in complex hotel, residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, including projects involving retained structures, heritage constraints, specialist fit-out, challenging procurement conditions and distressed delivery environments. His work focuses on translating design intent into deliverable project strategies, establishing effective governance and controls, and helping clients resolve the practical, commercial and programme risks that can undermine otherwise strong development proposals.
He has a particular interest in adaptive reuse, high-quality urban development, the relationship between architecture and buildability, and how good design can be protected through procurement, construction and project completion.

Occupation or interest in architecture in the City of London and its sphere of influence

Through my role at Vanor Advisory, I work at the interface between design, development, procurement and construction delivery. My interest in architecture is therefore centred on how strong design concepts are converted into viable, coordinated and buildable projects without losing their architectural quality during procurement and construction.
I am particularly interested in the City of London’s continued evolution through adaptive reuse, retrofit, commercial repositioning and mixed-use development. The City presents a distinctive combination of heritage assets, complex existing buildings, demanding stakeholder environments and ambitious sustainability objectives. These conditions require close collaboration between architects, developers, funders, consultants and contractors.
My experience includes complex central London hotel and mixed-use projects involving retained structures, heritage considerations, intensive building-services coordination and high-quality fit-out. I am keen to contribute a project delivery and client advisory perspective to the Forum, while learning from the architects, planners, developers and property professionals shaping the City and its wider area of influence.
